502 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Epilogue
Location: Gamma Command Fleet Yard: Science Department
Timeline: August 2389

“Lieutenant Ryler?” The voice came and Zayna glanced over from the panel she was working on. It was one that was set to be moved onto one of the ships once she was done with it, and it included a set of upgraded sensors she had been working on with the rest of the science team since she arrived.

Putting down the tools she had, “Over here,” she stated, and the officer in red waved her over. With a sigh, she hoped she wasn’t in trouble for one thing or another. She was finally focusing on work and didn’t really want to get pulled away from it. But, she went where she was told, and for now, she was being told to follow this officer.

Being led into a smaller meeting room, the officer nodded to one of the chairs while taking the other. “So, you aren’t in trouble. I’ve seen that look before. Besides, I’m only here to deliver news, you actually outrank me,” the officer said, tucking her hair back, showing only junior grade pips. She slid a PADD across the table.

Taking it, Zay raised an eyebrow as she looked over the information, “Are you sure? I mean, I didn’t expect to be assigned anywhere but where I’m at now.” The officer nodded and Zayna continued to read. “Well, at least now I know for sure where everything I’ve been working on has been going. But they’re sure they want me in that position?”

“They do. The Black Hawk is looking for an assistant chief science officer, and with all of the work you’ve been doing, you’re name was put up for the spot. That is, if you want it. We aren’t sure how long they’ll still be docked, as I’m sure you’ve heard of how many repairs that ship needs.”

Zayna nodded, “I have. But while they’re docked, doesn’t that mean I’m still doing other jobs?” The officer shook her head, “Not from my understanding. You’ll be working directly on the sensors and systems for that ship. You’ll be assigned quarters there as well, but there is no rush in moving your things.”

“But what about what the projects I’m already assigned to?” Before she could finish the question, Zay smirked, “They were for the Black Hawk too, weren’t they?” The officer only nodded, “Indeed they were. You’ll get to finish the one you have going and then it’ll go with you when you move over to the ship.”

“Looks like I might get to fly around in the stars again anyways. Thank you for letting me know about this, Lieutenant.” The officer gave a polite nod and smile and headed out, leaving Zayna to her own thoughts. “Didn’t think doing all this would get me an assignment on a ship. At least I haven’t fully unpacked yet.”
